Álvaro Arbeloa has revealed that he has already met with Fulham’s owners to discuss making the squad “stronger and more balanced” before the September 1 transfer deadline. Fulham have already invested heavily this summer, spending more than £70m on additions including Gonzalo García, César Palacios and Shea Charles. But Arbeloa clearly believes there are still areas that could be improved. What I like about his comments is that he isn't suggesting the current squad is inadequate. He has repeatedly stressed that he is happy with his players, while recognising that every team can improve after seeing the squad in competitive action. The 3–2 defeat to Chelsea also exposed some areas Fulham could strengthen, particularly defensively.
