How Should We Walk? Everyone knows how to walk right? Wrong. Well, we knew (as a child) and then we forget it, due to the learned maladaptive movement patterns that we pick up from adolescence and adulthood. We don’t move as much, we sit a lot, we don’t squat properly, we don’t run, we do stiffening gym exercises; this all can lead to dysfunction. Here are some key tips to change the way you walk if you don’t do these already. Head Side to Side with each Step : create a “column” between you foot striking the ground, and your head. Spinal movement: move side to side like a snake does and you’ll feel the rotation bringing you forward. Barefoot Shoes: get your feet out of the foot prisons that are modern shoes, and use barefoot shoes if not barefoot. These are simple tips to get you moving closer to how we naturally and primally used to.
