The arrest and detention of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian student activist and lawful permanent resident, marks yet another violation of human rights under the Trump administration. Targeting peaceful protesters based on the content of their protest is an attack on freedom of expression, which is a fundamental human right – not a deportable offense. The U.S. government must release Mahmoud Khalil IMMEDIATELY. No matter who we are, where we’re from, or what we believe, we ALL deserve the right to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression, and due process.
