Labor and Greens have just created a new environmental bureaucracy in Canberra that has unfettered powers to override the property rights of any Australian freehold property in the name of the “environment.” At a time when Australia desperately needs more industry and infrastructure, activists can now use this department to stop much needed economic development. It’s worth pointing out, the Federal Government doesn’t even have power under the constitution to make laws in regards to the environment. It is only under the foreign treaties power that the Federal Government gets away wirh this thanks to Bob Hawke suing the Tasmanian Government in 1983. The Tasmanian Dams Decision gave the Federal Government the power to stop State Governments from building Infrastructure.
