Friendly amendment: Or change the incentives so that the right thing means more (to lawmakers) than their political capital. Example: Term limits change the lawmakers’ incentives.
That is Trump in a nutshell. Ironically, he became the right person in the process.

Okay, but how? Term limits might be a start, but knowing they have limited time might actually have the opposite effect: if they don't have to fight for reelection, why does it matter if they do the right thing?
@JesseKellyDC should read this. since he keeps yammering on and on about "electing better candidates". seems that's not actually possible. Uncle Milt is right on target here.

Ya'll never solve "our problem". Because word "politically" is superfluous here. It is either profitable, or not. "Politically" implies disregard - even for profit. But what is "politically profitable" then? That which expands your power. Power to ignore you and your problems.
