If you need to do that, have a smaller wedding and cut back somewhere else. That is tacky.

Untrue. My mom & I made many wedding cakes for relatives & friends as our gift. They were 💯 edible other than the stands etc. We aren’t professionals. Just baked & decorated. Here’s one of many & it was yummy. 😋

Well, I can personally tell u that for my wedding I personally bought 10 pounds of Almond Paste for the cake, and my eldest sister made it for us. Some of my friends and relatives remarked that it was the BEST wedding cake they have ever tasted!

This wouldn't really even save on cost. The cost of a large wedding cake isn't the cost of the cake--cake is super cheap. Probably even cheaper than the foam used here. This would take just as much time and effort in decorating as a real one, so would likely cost just as much. The only advantage would be the ease of serving from sheet cakes, but that is also not really worth it.

Our wedding cake was like this. Except it was 5 meters tall. And spewed dry ice vapor. And revolved with us standing on it. Japanese wedding receptions can be wild.

It's a great idea. Wedding cake sucks. Have a big foam fake cake for the pictures, and serve the guests Bundt cake, with cream cheese frosting.

I’m not from a class of ppl where this would be necessary. I wouldn’t waste frosting, fondant, or edible decorations on a fake styrofoam tower w/a piece or two of stale pre-cut cake jammed inside. Me and anyone who I would invite would be fine w/the sheet cakes out in the open.

I guess some people do this so they can have some massive cake tower? There are a lot of people doing some fantastic sculptural work with multi-layer wedding cakes that are entirely edible. And tall. And beautifully decorated. You just have to be willing to PAY for them.
