No, economists do not disagree. If you put tarrifs on goods, the cost is passed to the consumer. JD and Trump do not understand economics.

No, economists don't disagree. This is Econ 101. Tariffs are borne mostly by the consumer. The businesses making the product can't operate if they're eating the tariff cost and losing money on every unit, so they raise prices to recoup the new cost imposed by the government.

The entire point of a tariff is to raise prices on foreign goods so that domestic goods can have a chance to compete. Which is exactly why you want to only put them on goods where you're trying to build the industry so that domestic products can be competitive. Across the board tariffs are going to do nothing but cause inflation and start a trade war where other counties put tariffs on us. This, in turn, actually COSTS Americans jobs. Most of us learned this in high school.

That tariffs increase prices isn’t a matter of opinion Kristen Welker. It’s a fact. So why ask him if he agrees ?? Your job was to state the fact then ask him how that helps / hurts Americans.

Trump put tariffs on Canadian milk and the price of milk skyrocketed. He put tariffs on foreign steel and the cost of homes and cars also skyrocketed. Tariffs affect consumers.

We have already been through this. Does nobody remember the effects of Trump's disastrous trade war with China where China retaliated to his tariffs and our farmers couldn't sell their goods? I do. It's not just an increase in the costs of goods we pay for, it's also job losses.
