Welker: "Last January you wrote that 'tariffs are inflationary.'" Bessent: "Tariffs are a one-time price adjustment. So there's a big difference between this insipid, endemic inflation within the system and consistent price level increases, and a one-time adjustment."

I don't think I've ever seen a cabinet member with a more punchable face

Dive into the critical issues shaping economic policy, from President-elect Trump’s sweeping tariff proposals to the challenges Texas faces under rising government spending. Now is the time for bold reforms to protect taxpayers and ensure economic freedom thrives.

“One time price adjustment” 🤡

America THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF WORD SALAD AND @kwelkernbc knows this but does she hit back?OF COURSE NOT
Inflation - caused in large part by the supply and demand balance being wrecked by Covid - has been slashed here faster than everywhere else on the planet to under 3%.

Is it just me, or does it sound like Bessent doesn't believe a word he's saying?

Putting words together to make people think he knows what the fuck he’s talking About

So this guy is your Sec of treasury? No wonder your tanking?

Insipid is the perfect adjective for Bessent 🧐

"Tariffs are a one-time price adjustment." So ... does this mean we can expect this administration to implement price controls? Price ceilings, which prevent prices from exceeding a certain maximum, cause shortages. Another page in the authoritarian playbook.

When has there ever been a one time price adjustment? Is the government going to set prices now?

I’m blaming mainstream media for continuing to have these people come on tv and lie to our faces. Stop interviewing they lying asses 🤦🏾♂️

Does Scott Bessent know that right-wing lunatics will be coming after him first when the economy goes into recession? He's gay and worked for George Soros. Does he really think he can just gaslight his way through this? He's gonna be Trump’s scapegoat, guaranteed.

Jeezus, these guys trying to cover for Trump’s idiotic trade policy is just a wonder to watch.

this is a bunch of nonsense

I thought Insipid Endemic Inflation was the ethos of the Trump administration.

This is the problem when you have an administration of all wealthy crooks. Prices going up doesn't affect them and they don't care that affects the rest of us

Unbelievable! Did he get a lobotomy? What a 5th grade BS

Bessent is a liar!! The prices will always be higher!!

It’s like inflation but 25% and higher

The one gay man in America I hate!!

Once prices go up, they never come down.

Wait until Monday Scott. How many "one time adjustments" are you thinking we are going to be having anyway?

What a load of nonsense.

He's scrambling to find a post-facto explanation for this catastrophic self-own. He will try a few others before he lands on the one that polls the least badly.

BESSENT..........is FULL OF SHIT

As the raw material costs to produce increases, the tariff % is unchanged, but now the cost of production goes up…and the real cost continues to increase over time. It all in the math, stupid-man.

Yes, and its likely we are looking at permanent price increases. But tariffs as policy ASSUME that 'correcting' trade inequities btn countries will be a net-positive for the Economy, NS & Foreign relations. I dont agree that ONE tickering will address Complex System Risk. KGJ

There is no such thing as a one time adjustment

Yes, we won’t see prices raise over time, they will just all jump at once… then will be followed y a recession sounds sooooo much better

Bessent acts like he doesn’t want the job.

This enigma of his past self was reportedly looking for a way out of this disastrous situation/administration. Looks like Trump has threatened to destroy his life if he doesn't double down on his hypocrisy.

Price adjustment was a nice way to say higher prices. When do they come down ever?

“Tariffs can't be inflationary.” - @SecScottBessent Mary is off her rocker. @GOP @PeteButtigieg @ewarren @ProjectLincoln @BillKristol @TheDemocrats @DNC @Lis_Smith @ossoff @nytimes @FoxNews

Good point. Yea, 20 years of inflation in a single move is much better...😉

A one-time price adjustment? Isn't that inflation? The adjustment is upward is it not?
