It's not "people on boats coming here illegally." That's just the narrative the likes of Reform want you to believe. This has in fact been caused by post-Brexit changes in migration rules.

Migration from here fell sharply too - presumably as a result of Brexit - as people stopped going into the EU to work or retire. Hence the higher net migration figure.

@Nigel_Farage ONS spokeswoman on radio this morning made similar point: migration used to be mostly EU & with FOM many didn't stay long, came & went at will; now mostly from India, Nigeria & Pakistan, who historically stay longer. Another case of unintended consequences for the anti-folk?

@Nigel_Farage This was one of the arguments FOR brexit. He literally told ppl that this is what we want. A "fairer immigration system" is what he called it. Ppl will still support him, though. Absolute madness.

@Nigel_Farage The reason so many people voted to leave the EU was supposedly the amount of migrants coming into the UK. The result of Brexit has allowed visas given to almost three times as many people to come in. You couldn't make it up, whilst the Tories obsessed over small boats!

@Nigel_Farage I wonder why Eu countries like Germany, Spain, Italy, France are having high immigration? They didn't have Brexit, did they?
