Today we returned to Aleppo and opened a free mobile vet clinic for the animals of Aleppo and distributed some dry food. A lot of animals are suffering from long term injuries, for which they had no possibility of veterinary treatment. Some patients came with diarrhea, some with disabilities and some with various types of diseases. We cared for all of them for free. Aleppo ‘s people are famous in Syria because they love cats and they are cats owners of many different breeds of cats. It's normal to see very fancy cats in many homes. We want to send thanks to WTG Welttierschutzgesellschaft e.V for their support of the Free Clinic and vet team in Idlib.

Farm cats are used specifically for pest control, so while the following does apply to them, the concentration of domestic cats in cities is a much more destructive issue. It is estimated that domestic cats kill 1.3 billion prey animals every year, which is a modest estimate and a major problem for the natural balance of the ecosystem. Domestic cats are not native to North America (they are native to modern day Iraq Cyprus, and Syria) and are one of, if not the most damaging of any predatory invasive species on the continent. Most will have the benefit of an owner and protected shelter, so they are able to temporarily remove themselves from the food chain while they sleep - which is a huge advantage over everything else in that system. They are also most likely fed at home, so when they attack something it's usually out of instinct and not hunger - which helps along their "kill for fun" reputation.

This woman and her husband lived next to a local farmer. He passed away and his feral cats were suddenly left with nowhere to go. One day, a single cat showed up at their house, then two, then six, and at one point they had twelve! They were overwhelmed, a little frightened, but they were more heartbroken watching those sweet babies trying to survive the elements. They had all twelve of them fixed and taken to the vet for a thorough checkup. At first they made makeshift shelters for them. One day, she asked her husband if he could build a permanent fixture for them. To her surprise he said yes and they call it the “Catsle.” Though they are feral cats, the cats have become trusting of them and now they are part of the family. Look at that Cat Catsle! Beautiful! While some abuse animals and have no conscience, it’s people like this that give us hope. ❤️ Have you ever taken in some cats, dogs or maybe another animal from a neighbor or family member who passed away or maybe just couldn’t handle them?
