Yesterday's April Fools Video - Behind the Scenes This was so much fun making this video with calpinoper ✈️ Seattle-DC-Portland-SF Sep25/Oct10 where we swapped clothes in between takes in order to pull this one off. Here's a little snippet of what is what like filming this, and this only represents a taste of the 7 min video about to be released on both of our of's. In between takes when I was giving direction on the shoot, this sneaky fucker would sneak in some tickles while I was restrained and would turn into a full-blown tickle session. He hides the ball well and has the arm speed that allows his fastball to get on hitters quickly. Some of his heaters run arm-side more than others, and the ones that do give right-handed hitters issues. The fastball has been up to 88.8 MPH on Trackman, and we saw that velocity upheld in-game during the fall tournament circuit. Hicks’ low-80s slider is a swing-and-miss weapon with late movement, and the two pitches are a strong foundation. This past summer Hicks paced all freshman arms with 95 strikeouts (24th among all pitchers) in 65.1 innings pitched. The 95 strikeouts from a freshman pitcher was the most since Blaine Harpenau’s 101 total in the 2017-2018 season. For almost 2 years now, this lone wolf has hobbled around the Voyageurs area on 3 legs. The wolf’s front left foot is permanently injured/disabled for some unknown reason. We shared a post about this wolf in 2023 and since the wolf is still around, figured we would just share an update with some footage we captured of this wolf over the past year. When wolves lose the function of a back leg, they can still move around fairly quickly because most of a wolf’s power and balance comes from their front legs where most of their bulk and muscle is. We have seen many wolves on trail cameras over the year that are limping and not putting weight on a back leg that are still moving around pretty well. However, losing the function of a front leg is much more debilitating because wolves cannot move quickly without a front leg. You can see that in this video. Nonetheless, wolves are persistent and resourceful. Clearly, this lone wolf has figured out a way to find enough food to live for several years. From what we can tell, the wolf appears to be in decent body condition too. We can only guess how this wolf would find enough food. We suspect it likely does quite a bit of scavenging (e.g., scavenging other wolves’ kills, roadkill deer, beavers that have been trapped for damming up culverts, and any number of human-created food sources). During summer, this wolf could likely catch hiding fawns and beavers, both of which would not require chasing prey down. However, we do struggle to see how this wolf would kill adult deer or older fawns during the rest of the year since it is hard to imagine the wolf chasing them down.

During summer, this wolf could likely catch hiding fawns and beavers, both of which would not require chasing prey down. However, we do struggle to see how this wolf would kill adult deer or older fawns during the rest of the year since it is hard to imagine the wolf chasing them down.

Tales of Wudan - The Mysterious Old Man In the year 644, as a young student of the Wudan style, it was my job to sweep the training area each morning. ‍ I started this job at 3:45am - and, with vigor, would finish with a few minutes to spare before the 6am training. ‍ There was an old man with no hands and no feet - the only man, to whom Master Po would bow - who would sit atop a tree trunk and watch me complete this task. ‍ Every morning, he appeared and watched in admiration. It was a full 219 years, before I mustered the courage to speak with him. “Why do you watch me sweep?” I asked, puzzled. ‍ “Ah, young Cobra, what better unison of the hands and the feet than sweeping a floor? If you were in my position, you would savour the task!” he replied. ‍ I looked at the stumps where his hands and feet once were, then looked up at him. He knew what I wanted to ask... But I was afraid to appear disrespectful. ‍ Truly, it was none of my business. Curiosity got the better of me. “What happened to you?” I said, looking towards the ground. ‍ I was sure he was contemplating reprimanding me. I was pleased, when he began to speak. ‍ “Wudan was not always such a peaceful place,” he began. “Warring tribes fought for this mountains power and strange creatures lurked in every corner. Before myself and a few brave others, including Master Po, banished them from the mountain.” ‍ I placed my broom on the floor, sat down and continued to listen. ‍ “While fighting bandits near the Yushu river, a water snake grabbed my right foot and began to pull me under. Fearing for my life, and unable to see the snake through the bloodied water, I removed my right foot with one slice of my sword. The only alternative was to drown.” ‍ Still looking down, I raised my eyes to take a glimpse at his right stump. “What about your left foot?” I asked. ‍ He placed his right leg under his robe and exposed his left before continuing his story. ‍ “The next day, I was limping and slowing the group down. I asked to be left to die, but Po demanded that I fight. Soon, a daughter of a previously slain bandit had spotted us and fired an arrow from a ridge which landed squarely in my left foot. Fearing gangrene, I removed my left foot with one slice of my sword.” ‍ “What happened to your hands?” I asked quickly. ‍ “My left hand was snared by a Golden Dragon in that now empty cave you children enjoy, to avoid being pulled into darkness and killed. I removed my left hand with one slice of my sword...” ‍ He paused. “My right hand was caught in a bear trap the same afternoon, fearing death, I removed it with my teeth.” ‍ I looked at his right hands stump. It was ragged. Not a clean cut like the others. It still looked painful. He looked relieved when the story was over, it pained him to relive the events. ‍ He took a sigh of relief and moved his gaze from me back over to the floor I was sweeping. I however was confused. ‍ “How did you find the strength, to remove limb after limb in such gruesome fashion? I don’t think I could do that.” ‍ He smiled. “Well then you would be dead. And you would never tell your story to anybody, would you? I didn’t find the strength to die.” ‍ I bowed and returned to sweeping. The conversation made me minutes late for training. Master Po beat me severely. ‍ The next morning when I rose to sweep, the man was not there. I never saw him again. ‍ Such is the way of Wudan.

Paramount, who had initially taken an interest in Martin Brest’s production of 'Midnight Run' (1988), wanted to put another major league star alongside Robert De Niro. Interestingly, they argued that De Niro was not a strong enough draw to carry a $ 30 million picture on his own. Their production executives suggested that the Grodin character should be changed to a woman, and that Cher should be offered the part, thus providing the opportunity to inject some sexual overtones into what was really a film about male bonding. Brest was not amused by the idea, and rejected it. Other big names were mentioned and Robin Williams, having heard that De Niro was up for the role, actively promoted himself as his screen partner. Williams even agreed to do an audition — highly unusual for an actor of his stature. Brest remained unmoved. He still wanted Charles Grodin — so Paramount backed out, and Universal stepped in and gave the producer-director what he had wanted all along. Grodin, meantime, had overcome his own reservations about co-starring with De Niro, whom he knew well from social encounters, but had never worked with. ‘I knew the ~ reputation, said Grodin, ‘and I know people are always worried that working with him is going to be a depressing experience. You know very well that if he has a scene driving a bus, he’s going to spend five days on the road driving a bus. But it turned out well. He was having fun.
