hes right and honestly the numbers make it worse than he even said it in the clip. since 1979 the amount of value the average american worker produces per hour went up about 90 percent. pay for that same worker went up 33 percent. so your producing almost 3x what your parents generation produced and you got a fraction of the raise for it. that gap didnt evaporate. somebody collected it. in 1965 the ceo of a big american company made about 21 times what a typical worker made. today its 281 times. since 1978 ceo pay is up over 1,000 percent while typical worker comp went up 26 percent. twenty six. and heres the part that actually ends the argument, the bottom half of this entire country owns roughly 1 percent of all corporate stock and mutual fund shares. one. percent. so every hour of extra output you squeeze out turns into record profits and record share prices and you own basically none of the thing thats soaking it up. thats not a theory thats just accounting. you get paid in wages, which get taxed at the highest rate in the system, and they get paid in appreciation which barely gets touched until they sell and sometimes never. so no your not literally unpaid. but the surplus you create is landing in somebody elses account and your getting handed back exactly enough to show up again monday morning. thats the whole model. food and shelter for labor, just with a direct deposit and a 401k match on top
