Martin Miller, Managing Director of the National Housing Trust (NHT), said the NHT now allows qualified contributors to get their NHT mortgage through banks and some credit unions, but still at the low NHT interest rate. This means customers repay the bank, but the cost is the same as borrowing directly from the NHT. He explained that this system gives the NHT more money to build houses, while the private sector handles more of the mortgage business. Mr. Miller also noted that if a customer is rejected by a bank, they can go directly to the NHT and the loan will be processed there. So far, over 4,000 loans have been processed, freeing up more than $33 billion, which is now being used to build more homes, especially for low-income Jamaicans. He added that while some projects are delayed due to issues with utilities like JPS and NWC after Hurricane Melissa, the NHT expects to deliver more housing units across Jamaica.

The Labor Party and the Liberals combined to add 10% to the population of Australia in just 5 years. Here is what this genius economic policy did to housing costs in my city of Brisbane: - The four-bedroom house I rent with room mates costs $900 a week, up from $500 a week in 2020. So we pay $20,800 a year extra for the exact same house. - The house would have sold for $700,000 in 2020. It’s now worth $1.3 million despite no material changes to the house. - You could have bought the house for a 10% deposit of $70,000 back in 2020 and paid $2,500 a month in mortgage repayments. - Now you need to save $130,000 to make a 10% deposit and need to pay $7,015 a month in mortgage repayments. - Current rent is $3,600 a month. The mortgage would be $7,015 a month. It is literally cheaper to rent forever than to take on 30 years of debt to own the same property. - When I tried to rent this property I had to first apply for 70 different places and was rejected from almost every single one. I would line up for a house inspection with hundreds of other people, most of whom arrived in the country extremely recently. - Australia has the second highest dwelling construction rate in the OECD. Did you know foreigners in NZ are eligible for Kainga Ora’s 5% deposit first home scheme? A scheme that is being heavily advertised and abused by fresh off the plane immigrants, to easily secure property in our country. The 5% deposit scheme was designed to help young kiwis get into the property market, who might be struggling financially to obtain the standard 20% deposit rate. Our youth should not be competing with non-citizens for housing.

Doug Ford has failed the young people of Ontario. The next generation of teachers, carpenters, and nurses is leaving this province because they can't afford to live here, let alone raise a family. Here's my plan to restore hope for our youth in Ontario: - Eliminate interest on OSAP loans and raise the income threshold for repayment to $50,000. - Introduce fair, phased-in rent control to ensure young people aren’t pouring their hard-earned money into rent instead of saving for a home. - Support the creation of 40,000 new paid co-op, internship, and apprenticeship positions through tax credits for employers who hire young people. It's time for a leader who delivers more for our young people.
