People really hate the fact that the Gospels are incredibly reliable and have authors we can name. It bugs me to no end when people try to use the “they weren’t educated enough” even though we all know scribes existed and still do today. It’s just as bad as when Muslims will claim that Paul changed the teachings of Christ even though there is no proof to this and Paul was very educated on Jewish teachings because he was a Pharisee. He also had eyewitnesses to what happened on his route to Damascus and was backed up by the other Apostles.

You included Papias as confirming Matthew as the author of gMatthew but he's well known for claiming that Matthew wrote gMatthew in Hebrew

Why would Matthew copy word for word from Mark about the story of him starting to follow Jesus? To me that alone is killer evidence that Matthew did not write the gospel.

What if the authors of the Gospels wrote their take under the name of another Gospel author? What next, Christians?

Hey, While on the subject of authorship, do you think it could be the case that Mathew calls himself Mathew instead of Levi in the list of disciples because he was hinting that his Gospel was a "Gift of Yahweh?" (And I understand that the gospels were not titled)

On the disciples ability to write. It’s also not out of the realm of possibility that any of them could have been educated. Living in a Greek region the probably had passable Greek. John appears to have known folks at the temple and I’ve seen theories has family were priestly and therefor could’ve been quite educated and only used fishing in off years when not performing their priestly duties.
