👷♀️👷♂️ We're working on foundations for Oxford's new Botley Road rail bridge. 🚶🚴 Now installing 40m-deep piles for the new 4-metre wide cycle/pedestrian route on the station side of the road - due to open this summer. 🎬 See our huge piling rig in action #OxfordshireConnect

Great to see these informative videos, out of interest why would you need 40m piles for a pedestrian / cycle route?

Hi. Thanks for your query. The new bridge will carry trains over the road. The walkway/cycleway will be above road level and will pass through an open box under the bridge (as illustrated). The box and the bridge need to take the weight of the railway & trains passing over them.

Please confirm/explain need for piles each 40 metres deep. Is that usual? It's only a bridge for bikes, not heavy vehicles.
