The accused, Harvinder Mann alias Harry, remains in critical condition. According to preliminary investigations, both worked for a private packers and movers company in Mohali and had known each other for nearly three years. Police said the two were previously in a relationship that had ended some time ago. A 21-year-old woman was allegedly murdered in broad daylight at the BC Road bus stand in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday evening, sending shockwaves across Karnataka. The victim, identified as Lavanya, a resident of Kakkepadavu, worked at a private nursing home in Kalladka. Police said the accused, identified as Chethan, allegedly attacked her with a machete after she repeatedly rejected his advances. He was arrested within hours near Vamanjoor-Pacchanadi on the outskirts of Mangaluru following a coordinated police operation. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over crimes linked to harassment and one-sided obsession. Police have registered a murder case and launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading to the attack. According to the police, Lavanya was returning home from work on Thursday, 16 July, at around 6 pm. She had boarded a KSRTC bus from Bantwal to Kakkepadavu after finishing her shift at the private nursing home in Kalladka. Police said Chethan, who is believed to be a distant relative of the victim, boarded the same bus and sat next to her. The accused had allegedly been pursuing Lavanya despite her repeatedly rejecting his advances. Sensing something was wrong, Lavanya reportedly called one of her relatives and informed them that a young man had sat beside her on the bus. The call was disconnected shortly afterwards. After Lavanya got off the bus at the BC Road bus stand, the accused allegedly followed her. Police said he then took out a machete from a bag and chased her. Despite her attempt to escape, he allegedly attacked her repeatedly before fleeing the scene. Police personnel from the Bantwal subdivision and Bantwal Town Police Station rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and began an investigation. Lavanya, who sustained critical injuries, was immediately shifted to Bantwal Taluk Hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries despite efforts to save her. After the attack, the accused allegedly fled towards Mangaluru in an Alto car. During his escape, he reportedly called Lavanya's father and told him that he had killed his daughter and intended to end his own life. Acting swiftly, the Bantwal subdivision police formed a special investigation team. Using mobile phone location data and CCTV footage, officers traced and arrested the accused along with the vehicle near Vamanjoor-Pacchanadi on the outskirts of Mangaluru. Police sources said the accused had allegedly created a disturbance at the private hospital where Lavanya worked about a month earlier. Hospital staff reportedly intervened and prevented the situation from escalating. Investigators are now examining whether the absence of a formal police complaint after the earlier incident contributed to the tragedy. Bantwal Town Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation.

A year-old grudge allegedly culminated in a brutal attack when a former tenant armed with a sword and knife stormed his ex-landlord's house in Amar Nagar under MIDC police station limits on Tuesday morning. The violent assault left one woman dead and an elderly couple seriously injured. The deceased, Sangeeta Chaudhary (40), had been staying with her sister Vanita Dahat for the past few days. Police said she became an unintended victim of the attack and died after her throat was slit with a sword. The accused, Roshan Taral (30), a resident of Narkhed in Nagpur district, allegedly barged into the residence of his former landlord Dharmapal Dahat (51) and his wife Vanita (48) at around 9 am. Investigators believe the attack was driven by resentment that Taral had harboured since leaving the Dahat family's premises about a year ago. According to police, Taral had rented a room in the Dahat residence for a few months before shifting to Rajiv Nagar. During his stay, disputes reportedly arose over issues such as playing radio loudly and being reprimanded for minor mistakes. During interrogation, Taral allegedly told police that he felt humiliated by the family and was upset over being forced to vacate the premises. Investigators are also probing other possible motives, including his alleged grievances against a former girlfriend. Preliminary investigations revealed that Taral arrived at the house carrying a sword and a knife concealed in a bag. Neighbours later spotted him holding the sword in one hand and the knife in the other. Dharmapal was reportedly sitting in the front room using his mobile when Taral attacked him. As Dharmapal raised his hand in self-defence, he sustained severe injuries to his fingers, some of which were reportedly severed. The second blow targeted his face. Hearing the commotion, Dharmapal's wife Vanita rushed from the kitchen to help her husband. Taral allegedly attacked her as well, inflicting serious head injuries with the knife. Investigators noted that she was preparing food when the assault occurred, with chapatis still left on the tawa. At that moment, Sangeeta emerged from the kitchen area. Police said the accused attacked her with the sword, slashing her throat. Bleeding heavily, she ran out of the house clutching her neck but collapsed on the road outside the residence and died on the spot. Eyewitnesses said Taral briefly stepped outside after the attack. However, upon noticing several young men nearby, he allegedly threatened them and retreated into the house, locked the door from within and sat on sofa. Neighbours locked the main door from outside, trapping him inside until police arrived. MIDC police station staff rushed to the spot, broke open the door and took Taral into custody. The injured couple was rushed to a private hospital in Wanadongri. Sangeeta's body was sent for postmortem. MIDC police have registered a case of murder and attempt to murder against the accused and initiated further investigation.

Mafia Tycoon Exposed The mafia tycoon and kingpin of Chinatown has been exposed, along with his alleged police protection unit. The illegal sugilite buyer, Chen Zuming, who works for a Hong Kong-based boss known as Kingsam, was recently visited by members of the DOP political party and affected employees from a company defrauded of millions of rands by Chen. The company representatives arrived at Chen’s hardware store, but he fled the scene, and his employees refused to call him. Later, Chen called and allegedly said that “no one can fing do anything to him”*, boasting that he would summon the police officers he pays monthly to arrest the company directors. Shortly after his call, numerous police vehicles reportedly arrived to his aid — including Acting Station Commander Kanal Sithole from John Vorster Square Police Station. According to witnesses, Sithole entered the building and began accusing the company directors of not being worth the money they claimed Chen owed them. He allegedly refused to hear their side of the story and instead ordered their arrest — seemingly in favour of the illegal Chinese mafia operation. The arrested individuals, including members of DOP, were initially charged with intimidation. However, when their legal representatives attempted to apply for bail, Sithole allegedly returned to the station and instructed officers to add a public violence charge to ensure they remained in custody. Meanwhile, Chen, who is accused of illegally moving sugilite worth approximately R500 million, remains a free man — reportedly protected by high-ranking officials whom he claims are “his police force.” We call on the Chinese Embassy and South African justice system to investigate this matter, including the actions of the Station Commander and his team. The accused were denied police bail after being detained for more than 38 hours, and were allegedly threatened with additional charges. A case of unlawful arrest and assault will be opened by the victims, who claim they were unlawfully detained in favour of a Chinese tycoon who regularly bribes local police officials. The affected company directors have vowed to continue fighting for justice, stating that no threats or captured police forces will stop them until they recover their money and the mafia is behind bars.
