Wind and solar are sold as clean and sustainable, but eventually the hardware becomes waste. The US currently has 76,000 wind turbines and 650 million solar panels installed. The turbine blades alone represent 5.5 million tons of eventual waste. Existing US solar panels represent another 18 million tons. Unlike conventional power plants that can operate for 50 to 80 years or more, wind turbines and solar panels require replacement after 15 to 20 years (shorter by some studies). By 2050, cumulative global waste is projected to reach 200 million tons of wind turbine blades and 78 million tons of solar panels. Turbine blades are nigh on impossible to recycle. Solar panels are technically easier, but recovering many embedded materials is often expensive and uneconomic. Much of it ultimately faces the same destination: landfill. Wind and solar are labelled renewable, but there's nothing renewable about them.

We've never seen this part of the Sun before! ☀️ 👀 The European Space Agency /NASA Solar Orbiter spacecraft has revealed the first-ever images of the Sun’s polar regions, previously hidden parts of the Sun newly visible thanks to the spacecraft’s uniquely “tilted” orbit. The new images showcase a surprisingly splotchy mix of magnetic fields at the Sun’s poles. It’s a sign that our Sun is in its most chaotic phase, right in the middle of “flipping” its entire magnetic field upside down. 🔃 With its new vantage point, Solar Orbiter will be the first spacecraft to watch this flipping process happen at the Sun’s poles. The data will give new insight into the forces driving solar eruptions that affect Earth. Having How much will these repairs add to our bills and where will the dispose of these non recyclable panels? How many more solar farms and wind turbines got ruined during the storms? The site at Llanbadrig, in the north of the island which is owned by French power firm EDF Energy and powers up to 9,500 households, now needs significant repairs. Elsewhere on the island of Anglesey, blades were sheared off a wind turbine which then reportedly caught fire.
