the new markdown preview experience sounds like a significant update, what inspired the team to overhaul it in this release?

feels like VS Code is slowly turning from editor into an actual execution environment... ? even the features anymore itโs whether developers still want one central workspace or if weโre heading toward fragmented stacks like Cursor, terminals, browser agents, Claude, Codex you name it, whatever currently dropped vs codes so curious what people here actually use as their main setup in 2026 now - still pure VS Code or already hybrid/AI-native? any alternatives?

finally some markdown love, immediately noticed the new buttons as I use it daily. some further requests: - make editing of the previewed .md possible (obsidian's method). - included mermaid render support

Seriously happy-making post Browser tab as context is great Markdown toggle is...

VS Code == Best OpenSourced software in history ๐... The IDE is slowly becoming an operating system for agents.

share browser tabs as context closes the loop between research and code. tested on a debug session using devtools console + 3 reference tabs, the model finally stopped asking for snippets I had open. context grounding is 90% of the trick. solid release.

VS CODE used to be light weight on resources but, now with all the Ai baked into it itโs like running VS Code Studio. Instead of having VS Code, VS Code insiders, you might as well just have VS Code Studio.

Nice update ๐ the integrated browser tabs as context is a big win for real workflows. Markdown preview upgrade is also a solid quality-of-life improvement. Excited to see how this keeps evolving ๐

Share browser tabs sounds useful right now.

And much more ๐๐ป "we fixed tons of bugs silently in the background and we don't want to hurt our devs feelings, so we won't say it loud. "

Can we get ai control of the debugger and break points?

Nice update!

@pierceboggan im trying to use the ssh host that I use in regular vscode in the new Agents window but it always does this. Any tips?

finally a feature that might save me from copy-pasting context guess it's time to test if the browser tab actually works or just another

The integrated browser plus agent sharing is quietly one of the most useful things VS Code has shipped in a while

Integrated browser tabs are useful because they keep context close, but they also create one more place for work to spread out. The reset habit is to close the loop after the task: save the reference, name the file, capture the next action, and clear the temporary tabs. Otherwise a helpful workspace slowly becomes another pile of half-finished context. The tool is strongest when the cleanup path is just as clear as the capture path. We put the ready-to-use version here:

I've completely stoped using vscode... Now it's basically a bloatware...

I also have them open in preview view by default. "workbench.editorAssociations": { "*.md": "vscode.markdown.preview.editor" }

Browser tabs as context means you're showing instead of telling.

So packed with all the AI shit that it is no longer usable. Switching to Zed.

The more workflows stay inside VS Code, the better. Context switching is where developer flow usually dies, even for tiny tasks like finding and inserting one icon.

After the VS Code update, the unused variable highlighting issue is happening because VS Code merged the JavaScript and TypeScript settings. Please resolve it and restore the previous behavior where unused variables were not highlighted.

I used to use Office Viewer and Typora for markdown.

Boring. We are doing that for a long time at

Browser tabs as context + upgraded Markdown preview? Updating right now! Thanks VS Code team!

Do an obsidian like wysiwyg at last

Pls add lm-studio support

browser tabs as context is lowkey the most useful feature here, saves so much copy pasting between docs and code

Great

If you had released the new Markdown preview experience a few days earlier, I could have saved the money I spent on Typora a week ago. ๐
