We’ve started production on our new CNC wire forming machine. This will enable us to automate a lot of springs we manufacture. Automation is the way forward in manufacturing! Would anyone like to take a guess how many axis does this machine have?

A lot of you are thinking that the spring which we will supply to Prakash Dadlani will be produced at the speed of 1304 ppm. That’s not true. All springs are not made on one kind of machine. The CNC machine we built that produces springs up to 1304 ppm manufactures compression springs. Whereas, the springs for Prakash bhai will be made on one of our 12-axis CNC wire forming machine. And on this the speed is much slower but it has flexibility to produce a number of different kinds of springs and wire forms. The design, type, materials, wire diameter and profile, features and precision of the springs defines what kind of machine will be used. It’s not one machine that does it all. This video is of that springs being manufactured on our other CNC machine. Also, the operator is setting the spring up that is why he is using his hands. Once it’s in production, there’s a crate underneath the machine for the springs.

This is a HIFU machine(High intensity focused ultrasound. the only machine in SA. Private sector does not have it. We use it to treat fibroids, adenomyosis, placenta accreta spectrum and abs wall endometriosis. We serve whole of SADC. Closest machine to us is in Nigeria.

This machine hay baler seems a lot easier than the pine straw way of hand baling. Different baler, different product, but a lot less work. 💯 Of course you have the overhead of the machine to maintain. Did you know this is how some farms bale their hay? How efficient is that?

Just two months ago, we were on the verge of letting go of a customer that we had been serving for more than two years. The prices were super competitive as they were procuring these springs from China. According to our cost calculations, we would have to sell them these springs at our breakeven price point. We would not be making any profit from their orders. The volumes were huge and we decided to take up the challenge. In manufacturing, one of the very important metric that your product cost depends on is cycle time. The speed at which we are able to process that part within the desired tolerance. Higher the speed at which you can manufacture, lower the cost of making that component. We could only manage 150 pcs/minute on our imported machines. At this speed, it was unviable for us. It would only make sense for us to continue if we were somehow able to manufacture this spring at a minimum of 200 pcs/minute. We were far apart and it seemed we wouldn’t be able to reach that goal. We were on the verge of giving up after two years of persistent effort in increasing our speed. Today, we manufactured that same spring on the CNC machines that we built in-house at a whopping 220 pcs/minute! We went from almost letting go off that customer to now asking that very same customer to increase our order volumes! First video is our imported machine at 150 pcs/minute. The second video is our in-house machine at 220 pcs/minute.

My grandfather designed and built this cam-operated torsion spring manufacturing machine before there was CAD or CNC machines. It’s the oldest machine that we have at the factory and the one with the most sentimental value to us. It still runs as smooth as butter.

As I reported 2 months ago, new two-stage espresso machines are rolling out. Cool frothing pitcher cleaner. We already have a really good product with a high end machine, this machine will give us more flexibility with milk options & hopefully better ROI. M&R is a killer on the one stage machines, steaming milk internally creates too many $3,800 repair bills.
