EUV machines are the most complicated tools humans make. Their supply chain has over 10,000 individual suppliers, and any one of them not scaling fast enough can bottleneck the entire AI industry. An EUV tool fires lasers at a tiny tin droplet three times in precise sequence, blasting it hard enough to emit EUV light. That light bounces off 18 multilayer mirrors onto the wafer. Meanwhile, the two platforms inside the machine - one holding the stencil, one holding the chip - are flying back and forth at 9Gs in opposite directions. The successive passes have to land on top of each other to within 3 nanometers. If any part of this is off, yield goes to zero. Take just one component. The mirrors are mostly supplied by Carl Zeiss, who have probably fewer than a thousand people working on them. In turn, Carl Zeiss rely on machines from Switzerland to deposit each of the layers, and use a coating process co-developed with a different German company. None of these companies have woken up. They’re gradually increasing production, but nowhere near the levels necessary for what the labs want by the end of the decade. Dylan Patel predicts production can't scale beyond about 100 EUV machines per year by 2030, no matter how much money gets thrown at the problem. In the medium term this is the key bottleneck on scaling.

I'm a little shocked. last 9 consecutive World Cup matches called correctly by this thing i built a couple weeks ago.. so the way it works is simple... to be clear, i'm not using AI or any of that LLM stuff because honestly a chatbot has never watched a football match in its life... and you can tell when it tries to pretend it has. instead i'm using regular numbers, the stuff sports analysts have been using for decades. i trained my modal with this data: > FIFA's official world ranking, because that gives you the baseline of how good each team actually is on paper > an Elo rating, the same system chess uses, which updates faster than FIFA so it catches teams that are getting hot or falling off > the last 5 matches each team played with goals scored and conceded, because momentum in football is real even when the squad on paper hasn't changed > expected goals (xG) from those same 5 matches, which measures how many goals a team SHOULD have scored based on the quality of chances they created, because raw goals can be misleading when one team got lucky with a long shot and the other missed three open chances > i also keep feeding it with player injuries and suspensions for the matchday squad, because if a team is missing their top scorer or first-choice keeper the whole calculation has to shift and the model weights that drop in > the all-time head-to-head history, because sometimes one team just has another team's number for whatever reason and the raw rankings don't catch that pattern on their own > a simulation that runs each potential match thousands of times in the background so the model can also tell you who's most likely to win the entire World Cup, not just any single match ▫️Here's what a prediction actually looks like look at the screenshot. it's Argentina vs Austria. the model picks Argentina to win 2-1, gives them a 71% chance against Austria's 7%, with a 22% chance of a draw... { argentina won by 2-0 } what i like is it tells you exactly why, not just gives you a number. - Argentina is ranked #2 in the world while Austria is #24. - Argentina has won their last 5 matches scoring 15 goals and conceding only 1. - Austria has 4 wins and a draw in their last 5 with 11 goals scored and 3 conceded. - And the two teams have only played twice ever, with the last match being a 1-1 draw all the way back in 1990. so you're not taking the prediction on faith, you can see exactly what's driving it. i love what i have built... feel free to drop any 2 World Cup teams in the comments and i'll run the model for you tonight..

While the rest of the auto world was still shopping for lidar vendors, Tesla shipped a functioning, vision-based driver-assist system that made the rest of the industry look like they were still in the beta phase. That’s the pattern. Elon bets big - not on trends, but on trajectories. In 2016, he ditched outside vendors and built Tesla’s computer vision stack from scratch. Engineers had 11 months to match what others took a decade to do. They did it. By 2017, while “experts” were still debating which radar system to use, Tesla was designing custom silicon - not to be fancy, but to be fast. The chip they delivered in 2019 is still outpacing Apple’s latest M3 in AI inference compute. And in the background, a revolution was underway. While competitors filled their cars with sensors and HD maps, Elon yanked them out. “Vision is enough,” he said. The critics howled. But today, Teslas use fewer raw sensors than anyone - and drive better than anything on the market. It’s not just cars. President Donald Trump is destroying the global economy, according to the media, Democrats, Europeans, and libertarians. The stock market is crashing. His administration is randomly and arbitrarily imposing tariffs, they say. And his tariffs are on the verge of causing a self-destructive global trade war. But policy should not be based on the daily movement of the stock market. The tariffs are not random or arbitrary but instead are based on a publicly released formula. And a trade war will lead to a much better outcome than the path Americans have been on. So says Oren Cass , founder of the think tank American Compass and one of the leading advocates of Trump’s nationalist economic policy. Based on Cass’s resume, one would predict him to be a Never Trump Republican, not a MAGA Republican. He is a Harvard Law graduate who worked at Bain & Company and became the Domestic Policy Director for Mitt Romney at the shockingly young age of 29. Romney, one of the most high-profile Never Trump Republicans, was also highly concerned with China. “I was working on trade policy for him and brought him the very standard, ‘Here's what a Republican says about trade’ starting point. And he said, ‘This is all fine. But what are we gonna do about China?’ “I remember the other economist was like, ‘What kind of question is that? We don't do anything about China.’ Romney was a very non-ideological, pragmatic guy with a business background. He said, ‘That's ridiculous. This is completely broken. What are we gonna do?’ “And I had the privilege of being sent off to find an answer for the candidate, at which point I discovered that the entire right-of-center ideological orthodoxy and the entire economics profession refused to engage with or think about this at all, even though it was a very real problem.” In our conversation, Cass debunked claims that Trump’s tariffs were arbitrary and said they demonstrated bad faith on the part of the people claiming to have debunked them. “My sense is that a deputy press secretary gave a confusing answer to a question,” Cass said. “The US Trade Representative's office has put out a whole detailed explanation of this, with the formula they used and the sources that they used. It's a PDF you can download from the US Trade Representative's website. “If you're somebody whose goal is to just embarrass the administration and confuse people, then you find a confusing statement from a Deputy Press Secretary and say, ‘Oh, see, nobody knows what they're doing.’” Cass pointed to people claiming it was strange for there to be tariffs on small nations. “I think there has been a lot of very bad faith criticism and intentional pretend confusion for the sake of fomenting a narrative among people who should know a lot better,” he said. “One example of this is whatever random island that only has penguins on it that people are upset about. Like, ‘Oh, like why do they have a tariff rate for this island with these penguins on it?’ “The answer is because US trade policy is done through a very formal mechanism called the harmonized tariff schedule, which defines the exact set of territory for which you have to have tariff rates and the exact set of products for which you have to have tariff rates. And it's a very granular set of territories and it does have random islands and so forth as entries on the list. And so if you're going to then announce what the tariffs are by territory, you're gonna have something for the islands on the list, right?” Another piece of misunderstanding Cass was on the idea of “reciprocal tariffs. “There was certainly a communication challenge in calling them reciprocal tariffs,” said Cass, “which people understand to mean ‘Whatever they do to us, we do to them.’ We're sort of holding up a mirror. But there was plenty of messaging for a couple of months leading up to this that what they meant by reciprocal was more like proportional, that it was going to be in relation to the size of the imbalance that we have with the other countries. I wrote a long thing in February walking through what they seem to mean and how it might look.” People are playing dumb, in other words. “They did a like, ‘We just can't figure this out. This must be some crazy mistake.’ It’s people who, politely, are not trying very hard to figure it out and are well-served by claiming it can't be figured out when, in, when in fact it can.” Trump’s tariffs will likely bring back high-wage manufacturing jobs just like Reagan did when he demanded Japanese car companies manufacture in the U.S., explains Cass... Hey folks, I've been recently talking a lot about why we're adding different styles of play into No Rest for the Wicked and I wanted to prove my theory that that would result in players having more fun, so, long story short... I turned Quake 1 into a Roguelite! 😂 Here's what that means: 1) Roguelite-inspired Run Structure: You start with limited stats in a hub map and are greeted by actual NPCs, then fight through sequential arena rooms across 4 biomes, each ending with a boss fight. 2) 40+ boons across 5 categories: Damage, Movement, Defense, Utility and Risk. And these also come with Rarities: Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. After clearing a room, you pick from 3 random boon offerings. 3) Permanent Meta: Death sends you back to the hub with you retaining the 'essence' currency you collected by killing mobs. Then you spend it at NPCs: The Gatekeeper starts runs, the Wraith upgrades your arsenal (ammo capacity, starting weapons, weapon damage), and The Shaper sells permanent stat upgrades (max HP, armor, boon capacity, rerolls) 4) Difficulty Scaling: Enemy health and damage ramp up as you push deeper. 5) Damage Numbers: Floating combat text and floating healthbars for good measure, so you can understand how much stronger you become over time. All just built on top of unmodified Quake 1 maps and enemies - no new assets needed, it reuses the entire original campaign as roguelike content. To me, this is point proven: I think even hardcore Quake lovers back in the day would've spent a whole bunch of time playing a mode like this given that it'd allow you to experience the thing you love in a whole new light by crossing genres. (I'd love to know who these scientists and investigators are, and I hope they are not connected to the UFO subject. We need fresh voices.) Leslie Kean: "What are the next steps that need to happen? So [Trump] has put this message out, but does he have to issue an Executive Order (EO)? What kind of steps need to be made to formalize it more and to actually make it start, and what would be the process by which the information would be disclosed?" Burlison: "Yeah, it's my hope that he does an Executive Order, and then, in addition, I think that we should make it permanent through the UAP Disclosure Act, because I don't think that the investigation will...this topic is not gonna stop when Trump leaves the White House. This is going to be a continuing topic. Hopefully, we get all of the information up to date that we can out to the American people, to the world, but again, this is going to be, I certainly wanna put something in statute or in federal law so that it outlasts President Trump. So I think that that's important." (Remember how many people said the EO was already issued, based on Hegseth mentioning it in an interview? Myself, and a few others, told you that that was NOT the case. A post on Truth Social, while helpful, is NOT an EO. We need the latter.) Burlison: "So I'm trying to lead the effort to try to encourage the White House to do an Executive Order, because I think it will have teeth in it. But even just as a statement on Truth Social, that was a green light for a lot of these agencies who have wanted to investigate this topic and dedicate resources to it. It, basically, was giving them permission to do what they've been wanting to do. And so, that in and of itself is a big win." (Let's hope these agencies play ball. I'll believe it when I see it.) Burlison: "And the other thing that it's giving is, me and our team, you know, that's being led by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a little bit more, you know, authority, if you will. And I'm announcing this with you right now, is that we put out a letter that was sent yesterday to Marco Rubio, to Pete Hegseth, to Tulsi Gabbard and to Chris Wright in the DOE. That is a letter from myself, that's signed by Nancy Mace, Eli Crane, Scott Perry, Anna Paulina Luna, Tim Burchett, [Suhas] Subramanyam - a Democrat member, and Andre Carson, who's a Democrat member. "So, of note is the two individuals on this list (Perry and Carson are on the HPSCI) that signed this letter are on the Intelligence Committee. So you have the Task Force and members of intelligence committee asking for, basically, following up on the President's [Truth Social post], and then furthermore, specifically, giving a list of items: file names that and the dates of these files, the metadata on these files that we are we're aware of, but we do not have the files themselves. It's crazy, I actually side with the "Anti-AI or AI slop" crowd. When the new SAG-AFTRA agreement took affect July 1st, I thought this was a major win for TV, film, artists rights and IP holders. People see viral AI Brad Pit fighting Tom Cruise or rip off American Ghibli Anime and assume anyone using AI to create content has the same background or beliefs. Quite the opposite. Majority of the top 1% of AI filmmakers or AI artists are: pro-AI, anti-theft, pro-ownership. We come from traditional production, have "real artist" friends and colleagues. We educate, hire and collaborate with artists, studios, streaming platforms, and production companies. We just released episode 2 of our original series "The Arc" on Artlist TV, and is just one example of what utilizing AI to tell stories looks like in the near future and following the guidelines created by SAG-AFTRA.
