Illinois parents urgently need school choice alternatives. That was reinforced for me yesterday after my visit to St. Patrick's, a private school in Springfield, Illinois. I was so impressed with the student engagement, discipline and participation – and the teaching of values. Contrast that to nearby Feitshans Elementary, a public school in Springfield. There just 2% of kids read at grade level. Only 1% are at grade level in math. Governor JB Pritzker and Democratic supermajorities killed school choice at the end of 2023. They made Illinois the first state in the country to wipe out school choice. The order creates the Illinois Accountability Commission, a board tasked with documenting and publicizing the conduct of federal law enforcement agents. Pritzker said the commission will also recommend actions to “hold the federal government accountable” for what he described as “military-style operations” in Chicago, the collar counties, and other parts of the state. Pritzker tells half truths, he’s a master gaslighter when he’s not tooting his own horn. I’d argue that Illinois hasn’t had a Republican Governor since 2003 when George Ryan left, it’s not as though Bruce Rauner acted like a Republican at all. A wolf in sheep’s clothing & Republican voters fell for it. Illinois major financial troubles go back to the early 90’s mostly because of pension issues & 30+ years later not one person has suggested a way to fix it. Pritzker can act as though he’s done something but he hasn’t done anything more or less than previous Governors regardless of their political affiliation. Illinoisans who pay attention know that it’s really the gerrymandered house that controls the state.
