I, to the contrary, believe it is fantastic.

You might need to pass a road test to be able to run along.

You think it is? Studying the movement critically, I think there’s a better way to design that roundabout.

MimiMaple 🖤🐏vor 2 Monaten

I do. I'm in the UK and there's a whole heap of different roundabout designs here and this is definitely one of the better ones I've seen. It's clearly sets apart the different lanes without disruption to oncoming traffic which would otherwise add to congestion at the roundabouts entrance. I can't count how many times I've wanted to go straight over a roundabout but the people going either way won't let you in because it's congested and they think you're going to cut them up somehow. On top of this, people in the UK have little to no lane control when it comes to roundabouts in general. Having the wider, clearer lane dividers would be helpful (if not to contain the people without lane control, then to allow more space between them and others with lane control haha) Even if there is a "better way to design that roundabout", what I said is that I think this particular roundabout design is good.

I perfectly get your notion.. my pov is based on the fact that cars coming towards the roundabout had to weight before they could access, and such act could cause an unexpected mishap. I presuppose having a traffic light solves the impending sudden event resulting to a damage or an injury.

@MimiMapleVT Roundabouts improve traffic flow. In most countries people follow the highway rules….

The best thing, in the Netherlands is that we have 442 of them—a lot for such a small country! We call them Turbo roundabouts. Wait times are minimal compared to slow traffic lights, and if an accident does happen, it causes far less damage

That´s a pretty great design. And it also looks good. I guess you hardly drive any roundabouts?

Profilbild von Derage

Only people who live in places that don't have roundabouts, or has no people that understands them, would say this.

Kinda a good design actually would stop people that are shite at driving going into the wrong lane when exiting but someone will f it up somehow almost idiot proof

Looks like heavy traffic flows from one side to the other, so they built a special road to keep cars moving without stopping. From the top (2D view) it can seem a bit confusing, but in 3D there’s nothing hard to understand if you’re already following roundabout rules. This is basically a T-intersection template applied to a roundabout. With no exit on one side, they’re using the lane reserved for the first exit as a direct path straight across to the other side.

Profilbild von LMD (Arc.)
LMD (Arc.)vor 2 Monaten

I strongly disagree with you.

Profilbild von Ehud

The problem with all traffic circles is it assumes people know where they are going. And will get in the proper line in time. In reality most people are being told by God. take 3rd exit Which means now they're counting how many entrances and exits they've pass. Just to turn left.

It's not what it seems; these types of roundabouts actually help traffic flow better. They're in the Netherlands and are starting to appear in the US.

Profilbild von Marco Poppe

In The Netherlands we are used to these roundabouts. They speed up the usage of the roundabout and rarely cause trouble. Not even with foreigners.

As much capacity as a 2 lane roundabout with less conflict points. They are perfect when you have drivers who actualy know how to drive.

Much more effective and safer than Trafic lights. Of course poorly educated drivers are a problem but tests to get drivers license are good in developed nations...you must be from developing nation

In the Netherlands we call this a Turbo Rotonde, it’s much faster than traffic lights and a normal Roundabout. When u are use to it.

Profilbild von twitteur_nl
twitteur_nlvor 2 Monaten

It's what we call a turbo-roundabout. The Netherlands have them everywhere. The only drawback is that you should know in front where you want to go, right/straight or straight/left. But if you want to turn left or go straight you almost never have to wait for traffic to pass.

Of course you don't understand this uses inspiration from fluid dynamics to gently and passively encourage drivers to slow to a uniform speed at a highway interchange to not need trafgic lights and make driving safer and more efficient. I don't even drive and I can see that🤦‍♂️
