Look at all these idiots watching a once in a life time scene through a phone screen. Put your fucking phones down for once and enjoy the moment.

This kind of close coastal encounter happens periodically in the Pacific Northwest (Puget Sound / Salish Sea region), where both resident and transient orcas are regularly documented near beaches and populated shorelines. This isn't AI generated. This happens here in the pacific northwest. One of the beautiful things about out here.

Another cool thing about Canadaโ€ฆour Orcas (although other countries have them). An apex predator that is smart enough to know it. They just do their thing. If you ever find yourself in the water with one, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. There has never been a single documented case of a killer whale attacking a human in the wild. Even that pod in Portugal that was sinking boats (scientists speculate a boat hit a baby orca triggering the rage), no humans were killed in the water. One of the most amazing videos ever recorded was of a pod of whales teaching their young how to hunt for seals on ice flows. Killer whales will swim very fast towards a piece of ice with a seal on it, turning and stopping quickly to create a wave that washes over the ice, sweeping the seal into the water where other killer whales are waiting for it. In this video, each time the seal (it was only one seal) was knocked into the water, it wasnโ€™t killedโ€ฆit was put back on the ice by a whale, and another member of the pod Practiced the move. the remarkable thing was, when they were done practicing for the last time, they didn't kill and eat the seal. And, they didnโ€™t just not kill it and leave it. The video ended with them actually putting the seal back on the ice where they found itโ€ฆand then swimming away. Killer whales are truly beautiful creatures.

Amazing. Hold your phone-cameras horizontally, people! The videos look much better that way.

My wife and I went on a whale-watching cruise and saw a similar situtation, with people on the beach and orcas nearby. All I could think about were nature videos on tv showing orcas throwing themselves onto the beach and swimming off with mouthfuls of baby seals.

I guess they never saw one grab a seal off the beach.
