This almost happened to me about 20 years ago in southern Colorado. I was out walking on a trail and went off about 50 feet to a small creek where I found flakes of gold. After I collected a dozen or so of these flakes I went up the same way I went down to get to this creek. Long story short it took my over 5 hours to find my way back to my car, when it only took me about a hour to find this creek. It was pretty much a straight line down the mountain off the trail to this creek. I think about this often cause like I said, I didn’t go far from the trail and it was a straight line about 50 feet. It’s like everything changed around me. It was all very quiet this whole time and I had a very uneasy and heave feeling that I was being observed. I’ve never went back to that place since then. Always wanted to but never grew the guts again.
