I believe they’re supposed to help with traffic calming - encouraging drivers to slow down around curbs and narrow streets to make it less comfortable to speed.

Did anybody ask the residents of that street if they wanted a bike lane? Did they have a say in the matter? If so, how come so many new builds (more cars) have been approved in recent years?

At a community meeting about traffic calming an old guy worked himself up over the “damn plastic sticks!” When told they are called bollards he really blew up “No fancy names!! They’re PLASTIC STICKS!!” He was in a real frenzy😂 Kinda made the whole boring meeting worth it🤔

I’m all for traffic calming. I just don’t know where people are supposed to park. This part of town is becoming extra saturated with new builds.

Some have said they are bollards but that's incorrect. These are "flex posts". They allow the city to quickly build out things that would take much longer in the case of concrete. One of the reasons is to build corner "bump outs" which cause drivers to take slower turns.

The paint and post you’re referring to are creating traffic calming bulb-outs and not a bike lane. Perry is a neighborhood bikeway, meaning bikes and cars share the street and these flexi-posts slow the speeds of cars and make crossing distances for peds shorter.

That my friend is Traffic Calming. You can’t cut the corners anymore. Allow more ped and bicycle traffic.
