Even though a lot of these answers are good, there’s been an even bigger step change in the use of plastics/plasticizers, particularly plastic bottles versus glass.

Sugar is one of the root causes, and it is contained in most processed foods. Dr. Robert Lutsig worked in pediatrics at UCSF, and wondered why so many babies were seriously overweight when they were only drinking baby formula. He discovered properties in sugar that prevent neurotransmitters from letting your brain know you are full. Due to the dopamine hits from sugar, we eat more than we should. Well worth 90 minutes of your time.

Take a look at the seed oil use and obesity on the charts near the bottom. Of course, obesity wasn't the only thing that took off in the 70s

It isn't sugar because they had that also back then. It's corn syrup that has replaced sugar. It's not allowed in some countries. High fructose Corn syrup is destroying your body.
