People are just throwing together anything sweet into a garbage pile and calling it dessert.

This recipe uses far too much added sugar. As with many American dessert recipes, the excessive sweetness overwhelms and effectively eliminates the other flavors the dessert could have had. Using roughly one-third to no more than half of the stated amount would produce a much better result.
