@Tesco It's drummed into us about the cost of hitting a bridge, especially a railway bridge. Absolutely no excuse or sympathy for this driver.

@Tesco Drivers routes are checked ahead of time to be sure there are no low bridges on that delivery route . Clearly this driver was not following the assigned route . I know this as I used to work for a large frozen food supplier in the UK

@Tesco I’ve driven HGVs and there’s no one to blame but the driver. The first thing you do when you get in a new vehicle is check your height. It’s in every cab.

@Tesco I thought supermarket drivers were given specific route maps to the stores which were set in stone. Also yard maps detailing how they should set themselves up to reverse onto the bays.

@Tesco Unfortunately he'll be lucky if he drives hgv again they treat bridge strikes like 1st degree murder these days, he's either off route or the coordinator in the office seriously fked up, either way thats 100s of 1000s of pounds there.

@Tesco It appears the railway bridge was upgraded at some point to mitigate these events. Either side of the two track bridge have been installed heavy duty battering rams that take the hit and protect the bridge from demolition. These are separated from the bridge which escaped damage.

@Tesco I remember when I worked in Haulage. Got a phone call to say, one of your lorries has went under a low bridge.I asked if the driver was okay. He said yes and I asked to speak to him. I said how badly damaged is the vehicle?He replied The trailer looks like a block of cheese 🧀😂

@Tesco With all of the fancy gadgets and GPS in trucks one would have thought that they could put a klaxon in them to sound when they were approaching a low bridge. I guess that they would rather have heated seats.

@Tesco I’ve heard stories where the road is refurbished higher than before by mistake therefore the bridge height is incorrect
