The bouncy and soft kinetic response from plastic. One of my rescued pigeons likes to do the same on my Xbox controler for PC buttons.

My quail do that to their transparent water tank too! I imagine it's depth and light interference with the water that gets them to think they can drink the water (they only peck at the water surface part in my experience)
