He said it's not a very theological phrase, but he ended up almost paraphrasing a passage from St. John Damascene, a Doctor of the Church: "Since, then, God, Who is good and more than good, did not find satisfaction in self-contemplation, but in His exceeding goodness wished certain things to come into existence which would enjoy His benefits and share in His goodness" –St. John Damascene, De Fide Orth. II, Ch. 2.

I wish I did not judge him so harshly when he was alive. I listened to the media and people who took him out of context and slandered him. He was a great pope and a great person.
