What did you guys call them

We called them Bajas when I was in high school

Not sure. A think they were called ponchos, too. Maybe Baja was a popular brand around my area.🤷🏻‍♂️

Mexican Ponchos. They were really popular here in California in the 90's... You could buy them over the border in Tijuana for 50 cents.

In México we calle these “sudadera de jerga” jerga is the type of fabric we use to mop the floors back in the 70’s 80’s known as one of the cheapest fabrics oh and sudadera means sweater !!!

Got trendy in my ‘hood in ‘82/‘83 after “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” “Surf Jacket” or maybe “Surf Poncho” until “Baja” entered the lexicon is what I recall.

"Drug rugs" sound right. I didn't have a name for them, but as soon as I saw it, the memory of the stale pot smell hit me.
