What do I mean about “new software” for our air traffic control system? We have an old operating system from the 1990s. I can put a brand new app on an old operating system, but it won’t work as efficiently. My new app is SMART. I can operate SMART... show more

Great analogy. Is there a "new operating system" plan for trucking too? Freight is running smart tools on top of paper BOLs and phone calls.

Trucking has the exact same problem. Every truck has an ELD and GPS, yet freight still runs on phone check calls and paper bills of lading. Smart apps on a 1990s operating system. Hope FMCSA is next on the modernization list.

Riding on 90s tech, even early 00s is dangerous. Would you allow your Mother to use a computer that old these days?

Now you're asking many people to give up the thievery of our tax dollars. The amount of the theft could pay for much

Running a Tesla on a horse‑drawn carriage, huh? Nice try, but that engine needs an upgrade. 😤

Just what IS that old operating system, Mr. Secretary?

You have hired gamers, Just watch as you ask them to tweak the new smart system with add ons Just the way gamers create custom UI, add ons, augments to everything They can design the most efficient and MODULAR (easier future update) systems in the world for aviation

America deserves the best! Thank you for what you are doing.

My question is where are you suggesting we make a $10 Billion cut to pay for this?

You want to make new software to use for traveling while simultaneously running a marketing campaign against using software while traveling. Come on man, give you head a shake.

So India can open another scam call center

Secretary Duffy is nailing the software-hardware mismatch in critical infrastructure. Aviation deserves the same innovation leap as space tech. Which part of the modernization roadmap do you see?

We are not in 5th grade. If this is how you sell a vision, you failed.

Raise airline fees to support infrastructure

NEXTGEN spent billions already. We tested tons of new software tools that never get used. The union fought every new tool. How will your new new software fix the controller’s union fighting back. You could cut a third by just letting airlines fly the procedures as published.

Usually it’s the data assumptions that cause problems with this. @grok what operating system are we currently using for ATC?

Just no. The government cannot complete any projects of any real substance. You say $10B but we know by the time it starts rolling it'll be $50B.

Secretary Duffy is Great! Is he interested in running HHS by any chance? We need someone there, that will keep their promises that the make to the people and has integrity and is a person of action.

The results of suppressing advanced technologies for decades. Blame yourself and everyone like you.

Dude.... you don't even know what you are talking about. You just spit out buzzwords and ask for more money.

$10B? I can create it for $200M

Hopefully, you fully deploy AI models

Stop giving foreign countries 100$ billion dollars annually. This is just a fraction of what we send them! C’mon guys… this is a no brainer! @HouseGOP @GOP

Use Linux!

Please translate the above Chinese into English: Congress has already approved $12.5 billion (most of it for Phase 1: fiber optics, radars, radios, electronic flight strips, and other hardware). • The FAA’s own estimate is that Phase 2 (new automation platform, traffic-flow management, full rollout of SMART, and related software/systems) will still need about $10.2 billion. • Duffy and Senator Schmitt’s Modern Skies Act treats the software piece as its own $10 billion bucket, then adds another $10 billion for control towers/facilities and $10 billion for mid-sized airports—$30 billion more in total. Adding that to the money already appropriated, the whole program now looks like it would reach about $42.5 billion, more than $10 billion above the earlier $31.5 billion figure. Why people say the request “may be high and carries real risk”: The September 2026 GAO report pointed out that the FAA still does not have a complete, verifiable life-cycle cost estimate. The numbers now on the table are high-level; they leave out the government’s own costs, most operations-and-maintenance costs, and the details of Phase 2. FAA air-traffic modernization programs have a history of the same problem (the 1980s–90s NAS plan started at $10 billion and later grew past $36 billion; NextGen also slipped, was scaled back, and ran over budget). The FAA and the aviation industry argue that if the work is not done, delay-related losses alone over the next 20 years could run into the hundreds of billions of dollars, with an even larger hit to GDP. They treat this spending as the last piece that has to be put in place.

@WhiteHouse Need money? Ask Israel for a refund of the billions of taxpayers dollars they’ve been given

@WhiteHouse We tried of windows 95

Upgrade. Refresh. Retool. Our safety depends on it. Thanks for fighting the good fight!

Sean, someone asked a good question. Can we use the money that was cut from the other departments or you have to wait for it to be appropriated by Congress first?
