The flag man acted on his instincts. He knew it wasn't right to allow a race to start like that. Sadly, he will probably lose his job because he didn't wait for the starter to call a false start. The real culprits are the authorities who allow a culture of cheating (giving away ground at the start) at most of the run-of-the-mill National Hunt races, and only insist everyone jump off on terms at the start at the big meetings.

As soon as a flag comes out, incorrectly or not, it's void. Horrible look for NH racing which looks so amateurish yet again.

What an absolute mess!!! How can the flag man call a false start but the starter doesn’t? I know it’s ultimately the starters decision but the flag man seen it as an obvious false start when the starter though it was perfectly ok 🤷‍♂️
