One thing people often forget is anime isn't created with adults in mind as the target demographic. For decades if you were an adult in Japan who liked anime they thought you were WEIRD AF for it. Its made and marketed forwards teenagers so they make the settings in high school.

Honestly I wouldn't talk on behalf of a country unless you've grown up there or are Japanese. Thats a lot of generalising

The literal anime terms Shoujo and Shonen mean young girl and young boy respectively and are marketed towards those demographics. My cousin lives there and I visit him often so I do have a decent understanding of their culture and perspectives on this.

For example while the age of consent is 15 there is a huge societal stigma about dating high schoolers as someone who's in college or older. The same thing applies to their views on anime, they see it as normal to do all that stuff in the shows.

But if an adult is big into it they find it strange and are very judgemental of it.

@CatastropiClara Love how you never got a response from her XD Well fits the modern Zeitgeist so who is surprised tbh.

@CatastropiClara I love her content and I have no ill will towards her, you can disagree with someone and still respect them. While im not fond of the sexualization of minors in anime i can also recognize that that sexualizing is meant to appeal to age appropriate people.

Okay I disagree that it’s actually very easy to piss off Japanese people. I’d actually argue they’re one of the easiest cultures to make angry. Mention them raising the age of consent a few years back, from 13 to 16. Which is reprehensible. Pedophilia is normalized in Japan.

Nine times out of 10 you have to do something really bad to piss out of the Japanese. Are you sure about that take? Tell that to idols who are getting death threats because they held hands with a guy once five years ago.

Hero Hei un-ironicly call black people who are into anime "hood weebs" I wouldn't take what he seriously

"Maho Ako" is a story of self discovery & sexual awakening. You can't really have that in college age, unless the protagonist was raised in a strict religious household. Also, ALL these "13-16 year olds" are voiced by grown women. Worry about ACTUAL real world children.

Why are there so many highschool theme anime’s? I thought it was because they are cartoons for high schoolers

I think you’re a little clout chaser that needs to mention successful people in clips to try to be relevant for a moment. This is a stupid take from an obnoxious cunt

they have had a lot of japanese guest on trash taste tho?

Joey's take is not wrong, but it's only one of many, many reasons. The Japanese person whose tweet blew up had some really good arguments too, like highschool setting being familiar to everyone, so no need for research about the setting, and no need for much exposition.

Becuz the age of consent in Japan 🇯🇵 is 16 years old that’s why. Another point they make these for them and their culture if u find their rules and culture pedophilic then don’t import them.

It's fictional, the characters aren't real.

I think people in the internet are way too comfortable discussing subjects that they don't even interact with.

For fucking real. It's gross. But, if you say that, you get crucified simply because "it's fiction". Which is bs.

Pretty sure the age of consent in Japan was semi recently put as 16. That’s probably why they do this.

They're not "literal children" They're animated cartoon characters. They're nothing more than a concept with an arbitrary age attached to them. You only know the Free boys are 16 because you were TOLD that. They were never born. Or grew. They're not real

*Shaking my head and rolling my eyes constantly while he talks to let my audience know that he is objectively evil*

What is this hoe doing on my feed looking like she hit the wall so hard she left an imprint of cheap makeup on the front

What do you mean That they don’t invite Japanese people? They have invited the Creator of metamorfosis, Shindo L. Could they invite more Japanese people to give their Japanese take on all these subject matter, sure but to you say that they don’t, Thats a It bit of a stretch.

It's an old explanation from god knows where, basically a bunch of internet articles keep saying that is the reason why a lot of anime settings are in highschool. I think Joey is just mindlessly repeating it because if you start watching anime before 2015 that's the general idea.

Maybe worry more about your overrun Muslim shithole of a country :)

“Joey is disgusting! Ok, let’s see what gross thing he does. Oh, I agree with him…” you leech

It's a podcast. In English. Why are you surprised the majority of the guests are native English speakers?

The age of consent in Japan is younger than ours. In there culture they choose to do that and they don’t see anything wrong with it. It is gross but that’s their culture and the west’s opinion doesn’t matter to them.

Maybe they just don’t consider high schooler children like in the west, not saying it’s right but considering their age of consent it is just a cultural thing at this point

What they're saying is mostly true, at least for me. I got friends who still watch harem anime in their 30, he works as a janitor and security officer at an elementary school. There are plenty of good people with weird tastes in stuff, to each their own.

Irish women and acting superior lol

I think you agree with Joey here though

West doesn’t set the standard for the rest of the world,Japanese works are made by japanese people primarily for Japanese audience, foreigners can find it weird or whatever but the fact is it’s made in Japan for Japan, west is not their main audience and never will be-

"literal children" talking about fictional children.... You can't make this shit up

1 joey is ethically Japanese, and lives in japan. 2 Japanese culture places you as an adult around 16-18 years old. The west interjecting their views on adults is not going to hold in a country where you are an adult before people in your country can drink at a bar legally

Drawings dont have feelings, grow up and stop giving a shit

Because that's their target demographic?? Shonen and shojo are for boys and girls in high school.

They make stuff in highschool is because the target audience is in highschool in Japan.
