Opuntia is the plant, the fruit is prickly pear. Now, people, be careful. It's not as easy to extract the fruit as shown in the video. Opuntias have LOTS of very tiny and thin needles (zoom in and you'll see them) and those pesky needles will torture you until you get some Scotch tape to get them out. The flavor of the fruit is mild and sweet. There are red and white prickly pears, they have similar taste.

Don't pick a "prickly pear" by the paw when you pick that pear, use the claw.

I think most people eat this fruit by juicing it. Has anyone here ever eaten this fruit directly? Is that possible?

This is a bloody PRICKLY PEAR (Fico d'India in Italian), not a dragon fruit.

“Tuna roja”. It’s a fruit that grows primarily in Mexico on a species of cactus know as “Opuntia ficus-indica” which in Spanish is called generically “nopal”. Very juicy, sweet and delicious fruit, BTW.
