Baulked landing wasn't necessary... according to B787 FCTM, aircraft is fully capable for a crab landing, and the recommended technique for a low bounce is to maintain the pitch and wait for the second touchdown. However, for a dry runway, a de-crab would have been more suitable.

Probably did the right thing. That cross wind also suggests a bit of wind shear, because the bird didn't flare so much as it dropped onto the runway. Better to get it sorted rather than try to make a hard landing worse.

Dude had all wheels on the runway and TOGA'd the landing. WTF... the landing was rough. Now he has to go do it again.
