Human dignity must remain at the heart of our digital future. During his address at UNESCO, Pope Leo XIV reflected on the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, calling for technology to remain at the service of people and for greater protection of children and young people in the digital age. While artificial intelligence can process and correlate vast amounts of information, it cannot provide meaning or trust. In the words of Pope Leo XIV , “Meaning is the oxygen of the mind.” His message ultimately went beyond technology: trust, dialogue and education are essential to overcoming divisions, strengthening our common humanity and building lasting peace. ▶️ Watch highlights from Pope Leo XIV’s address at UNESCO.

#AI is transforming justice systems worldwide—but how can we ensure it strengthens, rather than undermines, the rule of law and human rights? UNESCO, as the UN lead agency on artificial intelligence, is grounding AI development in ethics and human rights through its Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. In this context, #UNESCO has launched the Global Toolkit on AI and the Rule of Law for the Judiciary—a practical, training-focused resource designed for judges and judicial professionals. Funded by the European Union, the toolkit provides clear guidance on AI’s applications in courts, addresses risks like bias, opacity, and privacy violations, and offers concrete strategies to protect due process, transparency, and fairness. Through this initiative, UNESCO is empowering judiciaries worldwide to govern AI responsibly and uphold democratic principles in the digital age. Access the toolkit here: Ahead of the #AiDialogue coordinated by UNESCO and the Int’l Telecommunication Union as the joint United Nations Secretariat, learn more about UNESCO’s action: Video funded by EU International Partnerships 🇪🇺.
