What does “diagnosing” bigotry do other than to keep the system in tact while providing an out to bigots?

Ableds repeat after me: Blaming mental illness for bigotry.. 1. Demonizes and stigmatizes mentally ill people (who are already struggling enough just trying to survive) 2. Excuses said bigotry on the basis of "they just can't help it" when they can, in fact, help it

People already use their diagnosis as a shield for racist/homophobic/ableist behavior and that's not a listed symptom, what would happen when those folks get a clinical diagnosis of transphobia?

calling bigotry mental illness completely disregards the real causes of bigotry AND villainizes mentally ill people more than they already are

NOT TO MENTION you KNOW someone would IMMEDIATELY try to use the insanity defense for a hate crime

THANK YOU. Bigotry comes from a lot of places but not "mental illness". They're just trying to clear themselves of their own biases and deny that bigotry is a very explainable consequence of the world we live in. It's a coward's sentiment.

I’m with you —-it sounds lame when someone say “oh if you’re homophobic, sexist, etc, you have mental illness” — ah, No …its NOT, that means this one is a hateful bigot.. it still hurts me when someone kept scapegoating a person whose disabled w/ mental health like us😰💔

How about they deal with the bigotry in the psychiatric system. Ex. calling systems with OSDD/DID narcistically invested(or along that line) for not wanting final fusion and wanting an equal say in how treatment goes. Or how most research on Autism is only done on white boys

Her take is so dumb on so many levels. Like, those bigotries are cultural, structural responses taught and reinforced because we still live in an unequal society. They are not debilitating illnesses that happen on a biological level.

Not to mention that labeling them as mental illness is SUPER FUCKING ABLEIST ALREADY because it indicates that mental illness is the root cause of being a bad person.

This almost got me mad enough to redownloaded tiktok, but I will refrain.
