Juneteenth commemorates not the day that Black people won freedom in this country, but the day Black people finally received word of that freedom, more than two years after Emancipation. While we celebrate freedom on Juneteenth fully and unabashedly, we are also reminded that the powerful will try to rob us of our freedoms if left to their own devices. But the power of the people is absolute— as long as we continue to exercise it, and guard against the forces that seek to divide us. Thank you to National Action Network and Reverend Al Sharpton for allowing me to share my thoughts with the congregation on this sacred day.

I have just finished watching this documentary film on the history of colonial Rhodesia and the war between the Rhodesian forces and the liberation armies of ZANLA and ZIPRA. The Rhodesian Air Force had 70 aircraft, making it the second-largest air force in Sub-Saharan Africa, second only to the South African Air Force. Fascinating documentary film showing the major airforce executions and how the liberation armies were fighting back.

While the movie is still legal to watch without being convicted of a crime (jail time/fine) in America, the UK and the rest of the world…it is not the case in South Africa. The Jews banning this movie in SA is major. The South African Film and Publication Board committee told me in 2025 that this will be the 1st time in the history of the Republic of South Africa and the first time since the creation of the South African Film & Publication Board that a film…especially one that is a bonafide documentary about BLACK HISTORY is banned from the citizens of South Africa. They understood that freedom is something to cherish, and that each generation must continue the fight for justice and equality. Today, we celebrate all of the joy of Juneteenth. And we recommit ourselves to ensuring the promise of America belongs to all of us.

But the Summit of the Future showed that with a spirit of dialogue and compromise, we can join forces to steer our world to a more sustainable path. As this year’s #UNGA activities wind down, we must remember that this is not the end. It is in all our interests to choose the future we want and to guide our world towards it. The journey continues. Let’s keep going.

Many have said that the differences and divisions in our world are too great for us to come together for the common good. Yesterday in South Australia, the wind stopped blowing and the state nearly ran out of power. Prices spiked to the maximum cap under law, and it would have cost someone in Adelaide nearly $5 just to boil a kettle. This is our future under the net-zero delusion, blackouts and unaffordable power bills. South Australia was meant to be the example for the rest of Australia to follow on wind and solar, how's that working out? It's time to ditch the net-zero nonsense, build coal and nuclear and bring down the cost of living for Australians.
