The research builds on @SDLerner Patoshi Pattern and strengthens the assumption. Also settles who between @halfin & @druidian was the first to join Bitcoin, but more importantly shows how without their participation Bitcoin may have died off.

I love this but forgive me, it took 3 watches. I know I know - you sourced the website many times a but the music is too loud for casual viewing and the slick, creative shots are awesome but when combined with a shit ton of detailed, complex info + long techy words for me it actually undermines the intense work you’ve done. V bullish on your content and I’m sure you’ve got sponsors queueing up… just remember that they will want you to cater to the average Joe (like me) so ensuring we stick around and watch the full thing + the ad read is important. 💪

The video is showing the most hardcode technical stuff, is normal to not get it. You think like an influencer that makes content. I just do what I like. If you like it or get it, fine if not, well im not gonna lower my standards No one changed the world by playing for the gallery!

I know, the thing is no matter how involved you are in Bitcoin, the 1 thing everyone learns about is the origin story. And it has this mythologic quality to it, its too good to not be draw in.

Yeah exactly. I’ve thought about it since Satoshi exited. That’s when I started going deeper into it, sensing the overall mythological importance. I’ve given a few presentations about it, and I hold pretty strong convictions on what it took to be Satoshi. One day I’ll publish. Can’t wait to dig into your work

Feel free to send it may way! Mythology/metaphoric stories are good because they compress information and abstract it. You get more information density per unite of story. Thats why they survive.

You can really feel the gut punch Satoshi took here. Anyone who's ever worked on something really really hard, verified "it works on my machine" and then immediately gets hit with reality once IRL enters. Satoshi, brother, I can so relate.

@druidian I've seen quite a few of him from that period, but not this one. I mean dude is a super hardcore geek, very smart, very in the know. If you look at the private emails he got the chain dynamics of Bitcoin faster than Hal ;)

1) why did you conclude that both nodes were satoshi's, instead of concluding that only one of the nodes was mining, while the other was not? The second node could have just been a non-mining node, run by anyone 2) why did you conclude that tor nodes couldn't receive inbound connections? They have always been able to receive inbound connections as far as I'm aware

1) first 170 blocks we have 8 instance where we have big time between gaps, 24h and 8h stand out. And every time we have a big time gap, the extra nonce resets also. Because of the bug bitcoin v0.1 had the extraNonce would not reset after finding a block, become an uptime counter for a node. From Hal's debug.log file we know at Block 49 there were only 2 nodes(we know this 100%), so we can infer that was prolly the case for that period, since the interest in bitcoin on cryptoMailList was non exist. So every time there is a big time gap between blocks the extraNonce resets = node resets. So this really seems like the the network halts when node restarts -> one single entity mining most blocks and when it turns of node it resets. Plus clustering of extra nonce from patoshi pattern You can find all of this explained in detail on

Alex's reply didn't directly tackle your two questions. He instead posted charts showing extraNonce resets during the 8 big block-time gaps in the first 170 blocks, arguing this proves one mining node (Satoshi's) repeatedly restarted while the network otherwise halted. That evidence supports his single-entity view but skips explaining why both nodes seen in Hal's log at block 49 had to be Satoshi's (vs one non-mining) and never mentions the Tor inbound point at all. He reinforced his thesis instead of addressing the critiques head-on.

The two non-Hal nodes in Hal’s early debug.log shared the exact same IP (Satoshi’s California one announced via IRC). An unrelated non-mining node by anyone else would almost certainly use a different IP. With almost no public interest yet (only Hal actively engaging), both nodes trace to Satoshi running multiple instances. This is why the claim attributes both to him rather than one mining + one random non-miner. It fits the extraNonce resets during the big time gaps showing one primary mining entity restarting.

It's an HP laptop. I listened back a bit. Overall it's not too bad but there are certain beats and inflections/timing of your voice where the music and vocals blend and I find it a bit distracting because the ear doesn't know what is the dominant thing it should be listening to.

I always found it wild that the @dnetc community isn't ever mentioned in any research. Around Bitcoin's inception there were quite a few people in that community on top of BTC and its launch. That's how I discovered Bitcoin so early myself, through chatter amongst DNet people.
