The money that was never available in the first place, subsidy money was a loan, it was borrowed and everyone knew it was not sustainable in the long run. Bringing back subsidies means that you want to borrow to subsidise fuel for Ghana, Benin, Chad Cameroon and Niger. That being said, Obi is not economically sound, the more you press him with a single question the more confused he would be, Obi is a people pleaser and such a person with that mentality can't run a country like Nigeria

I think the problem is your comprehension. Let me help you a bit. A patient requires he tooth to be removed, Dr A just removed the tooth with pliers and the patient is bleeding and in pains. While Dr B said I will give anesthesia b4 pulling out the tooth. U see d difference

Youre the one with comprehension problem. I said this clearly in the video. Subsidy has already been removed. Will he bring it back before doing all this nonsense you’re saying? Petrol is already 1500. What exactly will he do about this?

Profilbild von Abramovich

Just like in the example I gave, the patient tooth have already been removed but this patient is bleeding and in pains. So first he will stop the bleeding and reduce the pains. Hence he will deal with the criminality in subsidy, then subsidy production not consumption.

I don't think he's bringing it back. Looking at what he said, he compared Nigeria with Pakistan, they consume 20 to 30million liters per day but Nigeria records between 35 to 62 million per day. Meanwhile they have more vehicles and road than we do and same population size.

Profilbild von Duru Bond

So what exactly is he doing? Petrol is 1500, how will “removing corruption” reduce this?

Profilbild von Adedapo
Adedapovor 9 Tagen

Let details obi said - current cost of fuel is too high (you don’t agree but that’s fine) - we need to reduce the price - we cannot continue to former way of subsidy (why? The data on consumption of fuel was a lie) what should we do ? - ensure regular supply of crude to local refineries (cut importation Costs) - look at our fuel consumption empirically and figure out a price that will not be too burdensome on the people but also not bankrupt the government(I.e subsidy which can be given to the local refineries in form of crude to ensure local production) Key takeaway The problem is not one you fix with one master stroke it’s something you finetune with prevailing realities.

With all these things you wrote, what is the bottom line? Obi will bring back subsidy?

Profilbild von Notyourmate

@adedapoOA It was renamed to energy security currently in nnpc documents. Tell me you dont know about it Sir.

Profilbild von Duru Bond

@adedapoOA Even if I’m to engage you in that regard, kindly explain how that has made petrol 1500 and how removal of that will bring petrol to 500.

Profilbild von Notyourmate
Notyourmatevor 9 Tagen

@adedapoOA Do you now agree that subsidy has been renamed to energy security, which is still costing us trillions# without any solid reasons? The fact that petrol is cheaper in Iran that's at war than Nigeria should tell you that there's a serious compromise going on in our oil sector

Profilbild von Duru Bond

@adedapoOA I asked you a simple question. How has the hidden subsidy you just discovered impacted the price of petrol? The fact that you made that comment about Iran shows I shouldn’t be having this conversation with you.

As much as we condemn Tinubu, he has always been clear with what he wants to do, and taking action on each of them, thats what we call principle and a man with a plan, love or hate him. Nigeria don't need an opportunist at this stage, we need quality progress and continuity

Why are we still having subsidy conversations today? Because Nigerians are worse off than they were in 2023. Yet, instead of questioning the person responsible for addressing these problems, you keep asking everyone else questions and then claim you are neutral.

The problem with populist politicians is that it’s often difficult to pin them down on what they actually believe. Depending on the time, audience or political convenience, their positions shift, become vaguer, or get repackaged entirely. Tbh, I don’t even blame the politicians that much. Politicians have been economical with the truth since forever. I blame the journalists whose job it is to hold them to account. Once a politician starts giving vague answers, put them on the spot. Bring up what they’ve said in the past. Ask them to reconcile the contradictions. Ask “how?” and keep pushing until they give a clear, specific answer. And if they still refuse, state it plainly for the record: you have not answered the question. Rufai is actually very good at doing this, but the problem is that he seems to reserve that energy for politicians he considers opposed to Obi. Once it’s Obi or one of his allies, suddenly it’s all touchy-touchy, softie-softie.

I think the guy quoted first kinda explained it. From what he said PO will remove subsidy initially temporarily and reinvest in other sectors like Agriculture helping food prices etc. Then reintroduce subsidy after they’ve solved the corruption in it. ie removal is only temporary

Things are hard at the moment and probably going to get even worse with fuel going up to ~1500/L But anybody that wants to bring back fuel subsidy doesn’t have Nigeria’s best interest at heart. Also, the conversation of removing corruption from the whole ‘organized crime’ called subsidy is just wishful thinking. It is easier to cure cancer than to remove corruption from the fuel subsidy in Nigeria to be honest

My own is, subsidy should go, but can we invest that money in buses to help ease transportation. Preferably buses that are solar operated so that, people can benefit directly from the subsidy removal?

Even if subsidy is returned, and the corruption is not weeded out, it will still be same. How are we consuming more fuel than Pakistan daily, even with less vehicles and roads? Is that not corruption? Weed the corruption and see what we have left. Simple as ABC… It’s well oo.

Why not ask relevant questions like, why are we buying fuel almost 1500 as an oil producing state? Subsidy or no Subsidy, should fuel be 1500 You leave the obvious and start asking what another human that is not in government will do better. SMH 🤦‍♂️
