Context- the character was heavily contemplating suicide after his business empire was secretly crumbling behind the scenes, and this little speech by the monk convinced him that death isn’t something to be scared of, so he then goes on to plot about murdering his family to prevent them from experiencing the anguish of being poor. Not very “wholesome”
