Nice write up. It's also worth mentioning `memo` accepts an inline call in case you wanna compare specific fields. I've used it when building a file/folder picker. I also recently wrote this (covers render, effects and refs). 😁

I thought that component will be re-rendered only in one scenario - when the state changes. Props change by itself don't trigger rerenders. Try to change the local variable that is passed as a prop - nothing will happen.
