It's down and rather melancholy. So what I do as a writer is start with a vague idea. I want this story to be hard and cold, or I want this story to be hot. And then I'll pick a location that I'm familiar with. I never do research specifically for that book. It always draws on impressions formed over the years from previous visits to places. Do you want it to be the West of Texas, where it's baking hot and arid? Do you want it to be on the Atlantic coast of Maine in April, where it's gray, cold, and misty? So that's how I start. With the sense of place and I'll construct the story around that. The temperature dictates the story." — Lee Child

Mike Vrabel gives a masterclass on mindset, self-talk, and dealing with doubt. "You can't let doubt creep into what you do as a person. I don't care what you do." "You have to be able to talk to yourself and not listen to yourself so much. You have to tell yourself what to believe." Read that again about your self-talk. Talk to yourself - don't just listen to yourself. Your mind will feed you doubt, fear, and negativity. Your job is to challenge it. Tell yourself what's true, not what's easy to believe. "That doesn't say that there aren't tough times that you struggle with failure. You have to be able to recognize it and know that that is a part of all of us." Failure isn't the opposite of success - it's part of the path to it. Successful people don't avoid adversity. They expect it. They know that they must learn from the setbacks and challenges.
