Alex Karp on the merits of context.

Great article on the context layer:

this is how we’re approaching it; 2 layers of context qualitative (like you mentioned) quantitative (is there like for like data for ai reason across a universe of brands to draw conclusions) though unclear which is more defensible

Ya agreed. Both can be context. But the most important context I think is clarity of desire.

agreed..the first question our ai asks what are u trying to do with this business

Curious what kind of responses you see

Is this a 7min video saying your prompt matters but using fancy words?

No. It’s not a prompt thing. It’s a question of what the context is that your AI cycles through every time you ask it a question. Soul.md vibes. Who is your AI?

Who is my AI? Maybe one day i’ll tell you and I guarantee you’ll laugh your ass off.

I hope they serve you well.

love this! been playing around a lot with our own api and getting deep into what the anatomy of truly good ai agent is

Super cool. Experiencing a similar compounding effect.

This is what makes CLIs like Claude code so powerful as apposed to web versions of AI Claude Claude AI. You can give it 50 pdfs, RAG hundreds of videos, md all of your meeting note etc and have it do work with all of that context.

Systems that create the best context will win.

the context problem is real but most ecomm brands are solving it backwards. they're feeding AI better internal data when the actual gap is their catalog being invisible to external AI. chatgpt can't recommend what it can't find

Great vid. The context layer. 🤙

@BellSaar Why do you think Manus/Meta doesn’t want to go the route of having a point of view given their “connect a bank account and we’ll do the rest” vision. Do they not need this to fulfil on it?

@BellSaar That’s what they said directly on the call. We’ll see how it plays out. But that still seems a ways off.

tried this with 3 ecom brands, found the context layer works way better for custom product recs than generic AI. but for scaling? still feels like a hammer looking for a nail. what specific problem are you solving that humans can't do faster?

“Context layer” = events + identity + product truth. Without it, “realtime AI” is just a demo.

Good points, but it is an obvious thing the agent needs access to real data. Plugging agents to API/database to fetch it is essential. Data should be easy to retrieve. Agents work great with all kinds of structured data - databases, jsons, even .mds. Another issue is how to make sure agent is not hallucinating and ACTUALLY fetch the data. For this - all data retrieval should be happening in hardened execution layer like python script etc. Python script in this example is predictable execution layer - extract and saves reliable. Agent is a reasoning layer - analyze and make find insights. I might read this article wrong though.

context layer sounds cool but curious how much this actually moves revenue vs just sounds fancy. seen ai tools that look good in demos but zero lift in real stores. what's your real-world conversion impact?

The “context layer” is where AI stops being generic and starts being situationally intelligent. The result , automated copy and product recommendations that drove measurable lift in conversion, not just generic outputs. Powerful concept.

interesting. been experimenting with ai context layers for ecom conversion optimization. curious what specific problem this solves that standard prompting doesn't cover. did you see meaningful lift in any specific metric?

yeah the context layer is massive for ecom - most people just slap chatgpt on their site and wonder why conversion doesn't move. it's about training the model on your specific brand voice, customer segments, and historical data. what's been your best tactic so far?

the context layer isn't the hard part. it's knowing which decisions should never reach a human in the first place. most brands feed ai better data and still route it to the same bottlenecks.

I disagree.

Love this taylor. I’ve been exploring harness engineering much more since thinking about how to layer the context. Would recommend @Vtrivedy10’s post on this

hey taylor, context layer sounds cool but wondering how much actual lift you've seen in real revenue? tested a few ai tools last quarter and most felt like noise. curious what metrics you're seeing change

100000x

Context layer for ecom is huge. We're building one slice: one product shot as context → listing variants, ad formats, multi-locale. Asset in, matrix out.
