🛑Chvostek sign is contraction of facial muscles provoked by lightly tapping over the facial nerve anterior to the ear as it crosses the zygomatic arch. 📍This induces twitching of the homolateral facial muscles due to hyperexcitability of the nerve. 📍Chvostek sign is observed in hypocalcaemic states, such as hypoparathyroidism and the respiratory alkalosis associated with hyperventilation.

that's interesting, but what do you think of this?

Chvostek Sign, a clinical sign associated with hypocalcemia. It refers to the ipsilateral twitching of facial muscles or increased neuromuscular excitability elicited by gently tapping the patient's cheek in front of the ears. Tx. Oral calcium and Vit. D supplements or IV calcium gluconate. Chvostek Sign may also occur post vomiting and respiratory alkalosis as in hyperventilation.

It looks likd the Chvostek sign which is a clinical indicator of hypocalcemia, elicited by tapping the facial nerve just anterior to the ear, which causes a twitch of the ipsilateral facial muscles, particularly the orbicularis oris, due to nerve hyperexcitability from low ionized calcium levels in the blood. It is often associated with conditions like hypoparathyroidism, vitamin D deficiency, or alkalosis-induced calcium binding. Surprisingly, this sign can be positive in up to 10-25% of healthy individuals with normal calcium levels, particularly in those with heightened nerve sensitivity or latent tetany, making it less specific than the Trousseau sign for diagnosing hypocalcemia. Also, its sensitivity varies widely depending on the severity of hypocalcemia, and it can be influenced by magnesium deficiency, which also lowers the nerve excitation threshold, complicating its diagnostic utility.

CHEVOSTEK SIGN✅✅ 🌐associated to hypocalcemia 🌐commonly seen after extracting parathyroid glands during thyroidectomy since PTH regulates calcium levels on blood 🌐sign is + when tapping posterior cheek 🌐autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type l, DiGeorge also associated
