What it's like working on a cruise ship🛳️. I always thought that would be a really fun job but apparenty not.

Sounds like a list of reasons to add to my already huge list of reasons to never set foot on a cruise ship in my life. No one should be treated that way and it's not funny.

As a public health person, I weep for humanity. They make these people work sick, & then we all stand around wondering why cruise ships are so filthy and sick.

Exactly — the ‘dream job’ vibe looks incredible from the passenger side, but the reality for crew is nonstop 12+ hour shifts with almost no days off, tiny shared cabins, and being on call for demanding guests around the clock. Huge respect to the people who actually make the whole experience run smoothly. It’s a tough gig most people never see.

@CherokeeOwl There’s practically zero Americans working on cruise ships. I go on Royal Caribbean and every single person has a thick accent or doesn’t speak English at all.

I’ve worked for a cruise line for 2 years now, I work 16 hrs a day, never have shade or a day off while onboard. Gone for 2-4 months at a time. As an officer(manager), coworkers change every few weeks. It’s chaos but it somehow works for me. Not for the faint of heart, but can make 10k to 15k a month

My son worked as a chef on a private super yacht. Yes, it is a very demanding job, 6/8 months, no time off, short breaks, when docked maybe a few hours allowed off the ship. Tight quarters, sharing (bunk beds). But the pay was high and no taxes for those working at sea. Also then having the rest of the year off after your 6/7/8 month stint.

I fell in a crew area and whacked my head; woke up in the middle of the night with severe vertigo. Next morning, I told my supervisor I needed to see the crew vet (doc). He asked “Did anybody see it happen? No? Then it didn’t happen.” Had to go right back to work.

Reminds me of working in Food Service onboard Navy ships.

All the crew members I met had days off and was able to get off the boat during docks days. I heard it’s strict but y’all are striictt!

LOL. These young ladies discovered that they were born and raised in the Matrix. But the Matrix can not exist on cruise ships, only reality exists. Something to do with the water. A similar thing happens around lakes, pools and storms - so things get real.

I was a GM on a cruise ship, had my own spacious quarters, basically a glorified babysitter but yes you work nonstop!
