De Palma wasn't convinced that she had the chops to pull off a part that was initially earmarked for Glenn Close. But Producer Martin Bregman fought for Pfeiffer to be cast & managed to achieve it. Here is Al Pacino and Bregman talking about it: While discussing the film's female casting, Bregman said, "Michelle Pfeiffer... That was a battle because of everybody in town was going out for that.
