I actually think Brock Lesnar genuinely retired at WrestleMania but somehow WWE got him to work till SummerSlam. You can clearly see from his emotions that he was really done with it. Also they never brought this up in UNREAL which makes it more obvious.

He plays with the power of the situation, but never in a way that corners him. There's always a way out. Shane can still choose not to open the door; Ilya can still choose not to knock. And maybe that's why it works: the desire builds in that open space, in their shared uncertainty, until it stops feeling like temptation and starts feeling inevitable.

So it's so important that Shane acknowledged that and apologized for it. Cause contrary to what Ilya certainly believed, it wasn't anything HE did that made Shane flee, it was just Shane's own fears/insecurities talking.
