What men do for fun, find a 10,300-pound boulder, call it a "quick project," and spend the day turning the yard into a physics experiment. Starts with "let's just move it," ends with heavy machinery, a little panic, and a whole lot of bragging rights. Just another normal day...

You could have just painted it green.

I simply would’ve just jack hammered it for a few feet and buried it and saved thousands of dollars but that’s just me

Put a half a dozen men, a case of beer, and some heavy machinery all together on a few acres on a Saturday afternoon. Amazing things will happen. When we purchased our land, it was all wooded. We would invite friends over, provide beer and a bonfire, and they would work clearing land all day just for the fun of it.

Lol would have been way easier to just get a jackhammer and level it out or break it up and shovel it out

Could have rented this for like $60 and just broken up the top of the boulder with a sledge hammer instead of removing the whole thing. What a moron.

You don’t dig them out. You dig around them, then dig your hole on one side deep enough to roll or push the stone in deeper. Cover it with the soil and you’re done.

Major amateur blunder. Every landscape architect will tell you that a boulder must be set at least 50% underground to look attractive and natural and not like a crane dropped it on the surface.

Yep, we can move that,” because apparently peace and quiet are overrated.

Dude probably dropped 10K because he didn't want to lose to a rock.

That’s a massive random boulder to have in your yard. Unless it’s common for boulders that large to be in your area, you might want to check the composition of it. It could be a meteorite which would make it quite valuable.

Now imagine a bunker buster bomb weighing 30000 lbs dropped from 30000 ft and not exploding until it hits terminal velocity. What a crater!! That’s the weight of an unloaded tri axle dump truck!

I did the same thing minus the crane. I moved it with a chain hoist and a comealong. Its a nice bench in my backyard now.

Did this with a backhoe. Rock was 4x larger than this one. Dig all the way around it. Then dump dirt right on top of the rock and wiggle it back and forth with the backhoe. Slowly but surely walks right up to ground surface. Old timer trick.

This guy later found another smaller boulder and did the same thing and put it nearby the first one.

Betonamit is a safe, non-toxic, and non-explosive cracking agent used to demolish large rocks, boulders, and reinforced concrete. By simply mixing the powder with water and pouring it into pre-drilled holes, it expands over several hours with up to 12,000 psi of force Done deal
